Barika Hel

Why Barika Hel?

Our mascot, the Barika Hel (suikerdief), is deeply rooted in Curaçaoan culture and storytelling.
The Barika Hel represents hunger but not just physical hunger. It symbolizes the hunger of the soul, the emptiness we sometimes feel inside when struggling with mental health, loneliness, or silence. It’s that space in your heart and mind that longs to be filled with love, care, and understanding.

For LilaSYL, the Barika Hel is not just a mascot, it’s a reminder. A reminder that everyone carries an emptiness at times, and that emptiness should not be ignored or hidden. Instead, it should be acknowledged, understood, and healed.

By making Barika Hel our mascot, we give a voice to the struggles that many keep inside. He stands as a symbol of resilience, honesty, and the courage to admit: “I feel empty, but I am still here.”

Meaning Behind the Mascot

The Barika Hel ties our clothing brand to the culture of Curaçao raw, honest, and real. It embodies the balance between pain and healing, between struggle and strength.
Through every design and every drop, Barika Hel reminds us:

It’s okay to admit your pain.
Its okay to feel empty.
And its okay to fight to save your life.

This is why Barika Hel leads LilaSYL, because he represents not only our brand but also the journey of everyone who wears it.
